You told me what to do,  An' like a fool, I did it too.

Tried so hard to fit in,  Now my patience's grown thin.

This has gone on too long,  And it feels way to wrong,

Will I ever be me,   If you don’t set me free.
So I’m takin’ a stand,  Tired of wearin’ your brand.
Got just one thing to say,  Tired of livin’ your way.

Glad I'm not like you!  With your idea of what is cool.

Now I know who I am!  Gonna be my own man.
So I'm takin' a stand.  Tired of wearin’ your brand.
Got just one thing to say,  Tired of livin’ your way,

Singin' the Blues

        SINGIN' THE BLUES                Ab7  1-4-5
My friends all write stories & wrap them in a song,
And sing them out to please you all from sundown clear to dawn.
Ya, they got the way of sayin’ things to make you understand,
There's a whole lot to be said about a woman and a man.
But what I got to tell you shouldn't be surprising news,
Seems like all I got to sing about's the Blues!.

They sing so sweetly, brings tears to your eyes,
'Bout how the Sun keeps shining, & clear, blue, blue, blue skies.
They make you want to sing and shout to the Lord above,
About how wonderful it feels to be so deep in love,
But what I got to tell you shouldn't be surprising news,
Seems like all I got to sing about's the Blues!
(chorus)
Well baby you been sitting there for such a long long time,
Smiling and a laughing and sipping on your wine,
But who is it you're smiling for? It surely isn't me,
Cause ever time you look this way I'm not the one you see!

Well I can sit & listen to Seth & Daisy May.
Their songs are so uplifting in oh so many ways.
And man gotta tell you, I really love their style,
I love the way they turn a phrase, it makes it all worthwhile.
But what I gotta tell you shouldn't be surprising news,
Seems like all I got to sing about's, the Blues!

(repeat chorus, first verse and tag out)

I've been all around this world.
Seen people hand in hand.
Smiles on all of their faces,
Down to every last man,
So,...(Chorus with "Jesus, is near")

Well I've danced me some dances,
And I drank me some wine.
And I had me some romances,
Ooh, a couple of times.
So,...(Chorus with "Jesus is near")

Now my life, it has been full,
And I sing praises to His name!
Oh and I thank the Lord,
For keepin' me sane!

So, don't cry for me,  No, don't shed a tear.
Don't cry for me, 'cause Jesus is near.
No,..(repeat Chorus with " Jesus is near....Jesus is near...Jesus is HERE!")

Balad of Sarah & Simon

The Ballad of Sarah and Simon      (capo 2 w/drop E) © copyright Michael Lee Seiler. 9-3-06
D                    G                 D
Sarah married Simon & much to my great glee,
                                                   A
They had lots of children, and one of them had me.
           D                      G         D
They lived around a corner, back upon a farm,
                        A
And I was just a little boy when Jesus called them home.

Simon was a farmer, He worked in dirt and clay,
Turnin’ over busted sod, nearly every day,
But never on a Sunday, T'was his day of rest.
Ain’t it just like Jesus to take the very best.

Jesus sent for Sarah, in the Spring of '62.
Took away her from her sufferin‘, and gave her life Anew.
But it broke my Grampa's heart, not to hear her call his name.
So he gave up all his livin‘, just to be with her again.

The fam'ly laid them both to rest in a place called Pettysville.
Underneath a big pink stone, high upon a hill.
Sometimes I will stop & rest and gaze upon that stone,
Cause I was just a little boy, when Jesus called them home.

Now just a few stones down from there, my parents are at rest.
Ya, ain't it like our Savior, to take the very best.
It's only been a year or so, since we laid my father down,
But I was still his little boy, when Jesus called him home.

Some day I'll see them all again, how wondrous that will be.
They'll all come a runnin’, just to welcome me.
That's the day that these old bones will never have to roam.
Cause that’s the day that Jesus’, gonna come and take me home.   (repeat Verse # 1)

Out of Town

OUT OF TOWN                        MLS        9-09-06

Ab7 1-4-5
The moon, it don't shine quite so bright,         The Sun has lost all it's luster.
And neon, it don't look quite right.       The wind has lost all it's bluster.
I don’t really mean to complain,  But I’m slowly going insane,
It just ani't the same...        When she's out-a-town

The phone, it just don't wanna ring,   And singers, they don't wanna sing.
The birds, they don't care if they fly,    I feel like I wanna die.
I can’t tell if it’s cold or it’s hot.  I guess I really miss her a lot,
It just ain't the same,        When she's out-a-town.

(CHORUS)
All the people I meet, out on the street,
All walk around, Wearing a frown.
There ain't no kids down in the park,
The street lights a running on dark
I don't really mean to complain,
But I'm slowly going insane
        It just ain't the same.....
        When she's out-a-town

My coffee looks more like a tea,   The preacher can't seem to reach me.
My friends aren't inclined to hang round,  They tell me I'm feeling too down.
I can’t tell if it’s cold or it’s hot, yeah, I really miss her a lot.
It just ain't the same,      When she's out-a-town..........

With Trees so majestic, and rivers so grand.
           D                                   G2
And it pulls at my heart, each time I must leave.
                D                                   G2
The Joy that I feel here, you could not believe.
                    A                       G2             A              D       G2
(optn’l) For Boyne,    Dear Boyne,)       Boyne,     Sweet Boyne
                   D                      G2                          D                    G2
Oh Boyne, Where clear waters flow.    Boyne, where wild mushrooms grow.
             D                          G2                            D                                       G2
Boyne, where the sky is so blue, Each time that I leave, breaks my heart right in two.
             A                       D        G2
    For Boyne,        Sweet Boyne.
I’m told that it’s named, for a land far away,
Where rivers run clear, and skies never gray.
And though I have never, been to this land,
I’m sure it falls short, of being as grand,
As Boyne,       Sweet Boyne.
*Oh Boyne, where clear waters flow.
*Boyne , where tall Aspen grow.
*Boyne, where the sky is so blue.
*Each time that I leave, breaks my heart right in two.
*For Boyne,       Sweet Boyne.
[Lightly] Now I’ve spent near a life-time, here in this land.
At the foot of the Throne, near the Sovereign’s Right Hand.
Where the sunset’s on fire, and the trees are aglow.
And the purest of white is the wind-driven snow.   [Build]
Where the Brookies all smile, ‘cause their smarter than you.
And the whitetails abound, and the hard times are few.
And the people all love you, and pull you aside,
To show you the grandeur that God does provide,
In Boyne,      Sweet Boyne
Oh Boyne, where the clear waters flow.
Boyne, where the tall pine trees grow.
Boyne, with the bluest of sky,
I swear that I’ll live here, the day that I die!
In Boyne,       Sweet Boyne.
[lightly]    Now, It’s more than a city, and more than a name.
It’s a feeling held deep in your core.
It’s a place in your heart, as wild as it’s tame.
Never knowing what God has in store.
In Boyne,        Sweet Boyne,
Oh, Boyne, where clear waters flow. Boyne where, green forests grow.
Boyne, where the sky is so blue, If you have to leave her, she’ll break your heart too.
In Boyne,   Sweet Boyne…..(repeat “Oh Boyne…”)[above]
In Boyne,       Sweet Boyne,       Lovely Boyne

Poor Beast

PUT THIS POOR BEAST DOWN   MLS 5-16-07
E7
It sure as heck is dark, at the bottom of this hole,
A7
It's the kind of blackness that rips into your soul.
B7
It leaves you knowin‘, that, there ain't no place to go.
A7                B7         E7---B7
Would someone put this poor beast down.

There's no one here to turn to, that's the way it's gotta be.
The only one I've ever had to rely on has been me.
No one can understand, all the pain, I see,
Would someone put this poor beast down?
(CHORUS)
A7                            E7
Would someone put, this poor beast down,  Ain't he suffered quite enough?
A7                                B7
He's been beat down, one too many times,  All for the promise of love.

This coffee that I'm drinkin, is bitter on the tongue,
Just like the words you left me with, the ones that really stung.
You didn't have to leave that way, you didn't have to go,
Would someone put this poor beast down?

So tell me why it is, I have to plead and beg?
Even horses are considered, when they have a broken leg,
Why do I even have to suffer anyway?
Would someone put this poor beast down?

(CHORUS)

They don't let old dogs suffer that a way,
Even wolves, will take a deer that's gone astray,
Why do I even have to suffer anyway?
Would someone put this poor beast down,
Would someone put this poor beast down,         (repeat...)

In the Boyne

In the Boyne        Michael Lee Seiler  Aug. 2008
D                                                               G
Have you ever sat and you listened, of a stream that sparkled and glistened,
     A                                         G                               A
So full of wondrous fish, that don't ever make it to dish,
               D                                                          G
Where a strike leads to glorious fight, through daylight and often ‘till night,
        A                                               G                                            A
And just as the fish tires to net, the last surge's the strongest one yet,
            G                                           D
And it severs the line to prove, this monster you cannot remove, and,
        A                                                        G
The fish we don't catch in the Boyne, are bigger then those,
        A                                           D
That you don't catch, in Horton's Creek.

Chorus
                 G                                                         D
From the Steelhead run in the Spring, to the fall run of Chinook & King,
                 G
Whether Brookies, or Rainbows or Browns,
                 A
From the Dam Road clear down to the town,
    G                                                            D
A point that you cannot deny, whether using a worm or a fly, is
        A                                                            G
The fish we don't catch in the Boyne, are bigger than those,
         A                                              D
That you don't catch in Horton's Creek.
In matters of un-quenching knowledge, you don't have to go to a college,
To know when a story's been stretched, when concerning that often "near catch"
Of a fish too large to believe, too large for the net to receive,
So I offer this notable song, to right an ongoing wrong,
Of a fact you cannot dispute, from a man you dare not repute, that
The fish we don't catch in the Boyne, are bigger than those,
That you don't catch in Horton's Creek.
It seems that there’s great pride & joy, in the streams that feed Charlevoix,
And the locals all gather to boast of the treasures their stream has to host. and
The rivalry’s gone on for years, discussed over vodka and beers,
Of the monsters that grow in the holes, that break lines and damage poles,
And I feel that we all must concede, to be taken where logic must lead, that
The fish we don’t catch in the Boyne, are bigger than those,
That you don’t catch in Horton’s Creek.    ©copyright: Michael Lee Seiler 2008

Grab the angels, hang the balls,
Now it’s time to deck the halls & elf-yourself…
You Gotta elf-yourself

When you got no one to please,
Gotta get down on your knees
Forget the birds, forget the bees,                   E7  A  B  A
You’re the one that you have to please, and elf-yourself,  gotta elf-yourself

This ain’t supposed to be a lonely time
So grab a friend , uncork your fav’rite wine
Tis the season to just party down
Hop your sleigh and head into town, & elf-yourself…..
Gotta elf-yourself….

No need to worry, don’t you fret
This right here’s an even bet,
You’re the one who can fix this thing,
Chime the bells make the season ring & elf-yourself
You gotta elf-yourself

You don’t have to break no laws,
Just be your own Santa Clause, & elf-yourself, you gotta elf-yourself
Just elf-yourself, you just elf-yourself

GREATER GOOD    copyright Michael Lee Seiler 2008

I don’t understand your reason’s, but your self-righteousness is clear,
My Father’s father’s deeds, you disagree

My anger’s turned to sorrow, your story cut too deep,
Bootleg whiskey built a church, but the good you could not see.
Chorus:
How quickly we forget all the things that have been done.
For the greater good, over the needs of just the one.
When Selfless acts of love, endanger those who try to bring a little piece of Heaven,
Here on Earth, before they die.

In deep darkness and alone, as fast as he could go,
‘Cross that barely frozen river, he would fly.

He risked his life , both here on Earth, and for eternity,
To find a way to build a church, before he died.
        (chorus)
Bridge:
He knew how much we needed, a house to worship in,
The only way to get it, involved a little sin.

Please look past the old man’s faults, and the way he got things done.
Forgive the deeds and focus on the truth.

Your place is not to judge, that right belongs only to God.
It’s up to Him to decide just what to do.

         (chorus)
I write these words, in the hope you understand,
No matter what you think, he was just a man.

We’re all born in sin, but still we have to try ,
To bring a little piece of Heaven, here on Earth, before we die.

        (Chorus)

I'm a Musician

(c) copyright Michael Lee Seiler  2008

I’m a musician, and I don’t play a fiddle,
I don’t play a fiddle, ‘cause I’m thick in the middle.
Being thick in the middle, If I played a fiddle, my belly would jiggle,
……….And the girls all would giggle.

I’m a musician and I don’t play a drum,  I don’t play a drum
Folks’d say it was dumb.  They’d say it was dumb,
If I played a drum,  “Cause I ain’t got no rhythm
……….in my fingers or thumb.

I’m a musician & I don’t play a horn.
Ain’t played a horn since the day I was born.
If I’d played a horn from the day I was born, I’d be pretty good
……….at playin’ a horn

I’m a musician & I don’t play a flute.  I don’t play a flute,
On a flute I don’t toot.  I don’t toot on a flute so the whole thing is moot
I don’t give a hoot
………that I don’t play the flute

I’m a musician, and I don’t play a banjo.  I don’t play a banjo
Just why?, well I don’t know.  I don’t know just why, I don’t play a banjo
Perhaps you could tell me just why
………”cause I don’t know.

Well I don’t play a fiddle, and I don’t play a drum.
I don’t play a flute, and I don’t play a horn
I don’t play a banjo, just why/ well I don’t know
So tell me just what do I play?
Can you please just tell me today?
If you know!

I’ve had enough, now it's time to say.

My world has crumbled,

Time to clean all the dirt away.

Just build a life without you

She might’a hopped a tug boat as it was leavin’ town

Capo 4  G2/ C2/  rpt
D  D7  Em  D  Dsus D

G2              C2        G2                  C2
What’s a November,  without the snow.
G2          C2                 D
Just an illusion, that’s all

G2                        C2      G2                        C2
When will we remember, the truth that we know
G2             C2                   D   D7
It’s just an illusion, that’s all

Em              D           Em                                      C
Many’s the moments, our hearts’ have drove our lives
              G2              D                   G2   C2
So hang on to that illusion, less it dies.

What’s a November, with no chill in the air.
    Just a dilution, that’s all.
What makes this circle, go on & on,
    Just a dilution, that’s all.

We  desperately  wrap our hopes in unending lies
So ignore the dilution less it thrives

What’s a November, without love in the air,
    It’s just confusion, that’s all
What good is living, when you haven’t a prayer,
    It’s just confusion, that’s all

Why can’t we understand, the tears and the sighs
And move past the confusion in our lives.

What’s a November, without the snow

And the people are dancing on air,  In the Bro

To the Bro, to the Bro
We’ll be dancing so slow
In my arms I will hold you in the firelights soft glow
To the Bro, to the Bro
We’ll be dancing so slow,
And do it with narry a care,
In the Bro.

People say, it ain’t worth the pain,
Love will drive, a man insane
Nip the bud, man, no, don’t even start,
But I’d rather be hurt & alone,      Than have a cold hard heart.

You cut me deep girl, you hurt me good
Said all the words, you knew you should
But I didn’t notice, no I wasn’t smart,
And I’d rather be hurt and alone,    Than have a cold hard heart

Cold hard heart, that just ain’t my way
Don’t think I’ll ever, keep the blues at bay
Don’t know how else, to do it, but give it all I got,
I’d rather be hurt and alone,     Than have a cold, hard heart.

Next time a pretty gal, tries to turn my head,
I’ll give it all to her, this heart of mine ain’t dead,
You tell me “nip the bud”, man, don’t you even start,
But I’d rather be hurt & alone,       Than have a cold hard heart

Come sit here by the fire, you ain’t gonna need it anymore
The snow is blowing ’round outside, and it’ll will freeze you to the core,
Baby hang your coat up by the door

Baby drop that red dress on the floor
Come lay here right beside me, you’ ain’t gonna need it anymore
The night is ours, no one is near, an’ I know what night is for,
Baby drop that red dress on the floor

Got meatloaf & some chicken, I think that that’s a leg
E7                 A7
Looks like the right color, but the shape is kinda vauge
E7                                            A7
Here’s a chunk of cheese, is it sposed to be this green?

Add a little water, some salt and pepper too,
B7                             A7    B7               E7
Put it all together to make a,     Friday stew
Should  milk be quite so lumpy?  Since when are oranges green?
Does tofu go with mustard,  does parsley go with beans?
Since when is lettuce squishy? And why’s the yogurt hard?
Is this a bowl of gravy, or just a little lard?
            TAG
A7                E7
Why am I in this kitchen anyway?  Sure I gotta eat, but there’s gotta be another way
     A7                            B7
It seems to me a woman’s place is in here fixin food, so why am I so hungry, so ornery and so rude?

E7                  A7
Cuz I gotta stick it in a pan, or cook it in a pot……..

Oh, here’s a  jar of something, and that’s a piece of steak,
Some stuffing from Thanksgiving, and some German chocolate cake,
I think that this soy sauce,  now tell me what’s that smell?
Mix it all together and man it looks like, well,
It’s Friday & I’m hungry, so I throw it in a pan,
That’s how man has done it,  since all  of time, began.

TOO LONELY WOMAN

TOO LONELY WOMAN                   © Michael Lee Seiler 2008
(fast tempo  Bb7,  Eb9,  F9 )

Too lonely woman, she is too hard to hold,
Too lonely woman, She is bitter and cold,
Too lonely woman, she is out on the road
    She’s movin’ on….

Too lonely woman, She is so hard to see,
Too lonely woman, She is lookin’ at me
Too lonely woman, Shes just got to be free
    She’s movin’ on…
C-1
You know she’s been away for such a long while
You know that it’s been years, since she wore a smile
This road she travels, trips her mile after mile,
I wish she’d set a spell, but that’s not her style.

Too lonely woman, She was once sweet and fine,
Too lonely woman, Had to make her mine,
Too lonely woman, She is one of a kind
    She’s movin’ on…..

Too lonely woman, She is so hard to squeeze,
Too lonely woman, she’s been down on her knees,
Too lonely woman, She is gone like the breeze,
    She’s movin’ on…..
C-2
You know that she’s been gone for such a long time,
You know it’s been a while, since I called her mine,
But she don’t want me now, and that is just fine
She’s in the world, and she’s got nothing’ but time.

CHRISTMAS BLUES

CHRISTMAS BLUES        Key: E     © Michael Lee Seiler    12-3-2009

Christmas time is comin’, my trees’ still in a box.

The balls are in the closet, got holes in all my socks.

Got no place to hang ‘em,  no tinsel for the tree.

No one here to share it with, it’s just the snow & me.

(C)    It really doesn’t matter, ‘cause the Claus ain’t gonna come

I think I’m on his naughty list, and I’m not the only one.

    This Christmas…. This Christmas.

The snow is getting’ way too deep, and I ain’t got no sled

Sometimes I wonder, if I’d be better off dead.

I hate all this fussin’, can’t take holiday cheer,

I need a shot a whiskey and pour a glass of beer,    (C)

(B)    You try to tell me that It’s the time of year,

For peace and joy and happiness, for harmony & cheer,

But I am here to tell ya, it truely can not be.

For someone who is beaten down, and lonely, here like me

Don’t care that much for winter,  can’t tolerate the cold,

All this joy and merriment, is getting’ kinda old.

I ain’t got no gifts to wrap up, no one to give ‘em to

No need for a white Christmas, it’s gonna turn out blue        (C)
